THE PARLIAMENTARY LIBRARIAN

Sonia L'Heureux

Sonia L’Heureux was appointed Parliamentary Librarian on June 21, 2012.

As Parliamentary Librarian, she oversees the management of the Library and reports to the Speakers of the Senate and the House of Commons who are responsible for directing and controlling the Library of Parliament. Prior to this, Ms. L’Heureux held the position of Assistant Parliamentary Librarian, leading the Library’s Parliamentary Research and Information Services since 2008. On March 25, 2013, Sonia L’Heureux was appointed to serve as Parliamentary Budget Officer (PBO) until a replacement PBO was appointed on September 3, 2013. 

Ms. L’Heureux joined the federal public service in 1987, holding various positions at Human Resources and Skills Development Canada, Finance Canada, Environment Canada, and Energy, Mines and Resources Canada. In these capacities, she was responsible for advising the federal government on strategic policies related to social, labour market, taxation, environmental and energy issues.

Born in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, Ms. L’Heureux graduated with a M.Sc in Economics (1987) and a B.Sc in Economics (1986) from the Université de Montréal.
